2011 Grant Making Strategy

In order to create and sustain strong, healthy cities, community foundations must demonstrate active leadership, anticipate community needs and respond quickly to socio-economic trends. In response to the dramatic shifts due to the economic downturn, RCF is focusing our philanthropy in support of non-profit organizations who are working to significantly improve the lives of Richmond residents.

The need for organizational capacity-building, as identified by our community partners, was heard loud and clear. In that regard, Richmond Community Foundation's 2011 grant-making strategy has provided more than $75,000 in capacity-building grants of up to $5,000 per organization in the following categories:

• Mission, Vision and Strategy
• Governance and Leadership
• Strategic Relationships
• Internal Operations

The goal of our capacity-building strategy is to strengthen the nonprofit sector serving Richmond residents and to enhance the effectiveness of our community organizations.
